As
a result of early individual success in the BTRDA Rally
Championship, owner Chris Mellors decided to
establish his own Motorsport preparation, and support
business in his home town of Sheffield. From the onset,
the business grew from strength to strength, with both
Chris and MEM clients securing numerous individual
rally wins, many at national level.
After a class win on the RAC rally in 1985 chris
was offered a drive by Ford Motor Company in the
Securicor championship, and so MEM were instrumental
in the development of the early turbo charged Sierra Cosworths. This
experience of turbocharging and engine management led
to major growth
in the business.
During
the mid 1990s, MEM teams won four successive Mintex
National Rally Championships outright, three with
Chris at the wheel. And in 1997, MEM won both National
Championshipand Scottish championship in the same
year. Prompted by this continued success, the company
addressed the need for more extensive premises by moving
their operation to a new site in Bakewell, at the heart
of Britain's Peak District.
Since this time, recent years have seen MEM provide
services for clients as far a field as the Ukraine and
Malaysia securing both the Ukrainian Rally Championship
and in 2002 the FIA World Rally Production Car Championship
with driver Karamjit Singh.
